Leucocasia gigantea ‘Thai Giant’, often sold as ‘Thailand Giant’, is all about extraordinary leaf size. Its broad, softly coloured leaves create a dramatic canopy on thick, upright stalks. In sustained warmth with generous feeding, the scale can be remarkable. Give it a large pot or a prominent seasonal position, with enough space to enjoy the full spread of its leaves.
Growing conditions:
Grow in warmth, shelter and sun or bright partial shade, using rich, well-drained soil and plentiful summer water and feed. Keep frost-free over winter, ideally with warmth and light, and avoid leaving a cold, dormant plant in wet compost.
Maximum size:
Can reach approximately 250–300 cm tall in ideal warm conditions, with leaves over 150 cm long; allow a broad footprint of roughly 200–300 cm, with UK growth often smaller.
