Manihot grahamii grows quickly, producing intricately divided leaves on branching woody stems. The narrow leaf segments give it an airy appearance despite its generous size. Small greenish flowers are secondary to the foliage, which looks especially good above broader-leaved companions. Although sometimes called hardy tapioca, it is an ornamental plant and should not be treated as an edible crop.
Growing conditions:
Grow in a warm, sheltered spot in sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. Protect young plants and roots in winter, or grow in a movable container and overwinter frost-free in colder areas.
Maximum size:
Approximately 200–300 cm tall and 100–150 cm wide in favourable conditions; winter dieback can limit outdoor size.
