Canna brasiliensis brings upright stems and broad green leaves to warm summer planting. Its relatively slender flowers combine yellow and red, offering a more delicate look than the oversized blooms of many garden cannas. Plant it among bold foliage to introduce contrasting colour and a little extra height. It also makes an eye-catching seasonal feature in a large container.
Growing conditions:
Grow in a warm, sheltered position in full sun with fertile soil and plentiful water during active growth. Lift the rhizomes for frost-free winter storage in colder areas, or mulch deeply only where outdoor overwintering is reliable.
Maximum size:
Allow up to approximately 150–250 cm tall and 50 cm wide in favourable conditions; smaller plants and container-grown specimens may remain much shorter.
