Macedonian Knautia – Knautia macedonia

Knautia macedonica carries deep crimson flowerheads above a loose clump of green foliage from mid to late summer. The fine, branching stems let neighbouring plants show through, making it easy to weave between grasses and other perennials. Its jewel-like colour looks especially good alongside pale yellows, silvers and soft blues. Plant it in informal groups for a border that feels lively rather than rigidly arranged.

Growing conditions:
Choose full sun and moderately fertile, well-drained soil, preferably neutral to alkaline. Avoid waterlogged ground and overly rich feeding, which can encourage floppy growth.

Maximum size:
Approximately 50–100 cm tall and up to 50 cm wide.
