Sisyrinchium striatum forms clumps of narrow, sword-like leaves with a soft grey-green tone. Stiff stems rise above them in summer, carrying small pale yellow flowers in tiers. The effect is understated but distinctive, especially alongside grasses, lavender and other plants with a relaxed silhouette. It is a lovely way to add vertical rhythm without introducing a heavy block of colour.
Growing conditions:
Grow in full sun in well-drained soil and avoid winter waterlogging. Remove tired flower stems and divide established clumps if they become crowded.
Maximum size:
Approximately 50–100 cm tall in flower and up to 50 cm wide.
