Salvia rosmarinus brings narrow, fragrant leaves and a confident evergreen outline to sunny planting. Small flowers, usually pale blue, appear from spring into summer and soften its woody framework. Grow it near a seating area or kitchen door, where a brush against the foliage releases its familiar scent. It looks equally at home in a herb garden, a gravel border or a generous terracotta pot.
Growing conditions:
Choose full sun, shelter and well-drained soil, allowing the compost in pots to drain freely. Trim after flowering to encourage bushy growth and avoid prolonged winter wet.
Maximum size:
An untrimmed upright plant can reach approximately 150–250 cm tall and wide; regular trimming or container growing keeps it smaller.
