Phytolacca americana ‘Variegata’ brings cream-and-green marbling to its broad leaves, creating interest before the flowers appear. Purple stems and later clusters of dark berries add contrasting colour. Its relatively manageable height makes it easier to place among other generous foliage plants. All parts, including the decorative berries, are toxic if eaten, so position it carefully around children and pets.
Growing conditions:
Grow in sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil, sheltered from harsh winds. Remove unwanted seedlings and monitor its spread.
Maximum size:
Approximately 100–150 cm tall and wide.
