Thymus praecox spreads into a low mat of tiny aromatic leaves, bringing texture to spaces where taller plants would feel out of place. Clusters of pink-purple flowers brighten the foliage in summer. Let it spill over a low wall, thread between rocks or soften the edge of a gravel path. Its evergreen foliage keeps the planting looking considered even when the flowers have finished.
Growing conditions:
Grow in full sun and well-drained, preferably neutral to alkaline soil. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain a neat carpet and avoid persistently wet winter conditions.
Maximum size:
Usually around 5–15 cm tall, spreading approximately 30–50 cm.
