Agave montana builds a substantial evergreen rosette with broad leaves and pronounced reddish marginal teeth. As new leaves unfold, they can carry attractive impressions left by their neighbours. The dense, balanced shape makes it a natural centrepiece for a gravel garden or a large architectural pot. Slow growth means it holds its sculptural character for years.
Growing conditions:
Grow in full sun in sharply drained, gritty soil, with protection from excessive winter wet. Although relatively cold-tolerant for an agave, young plants and containers benefit from shelter during severe weather.
Maximum size:
Approximately 100–150 cm tall and wide for the mature rosette; a rare flowering stem can reach around 500 cm.
