Boehmeria platanifolia forms an upright clump of large, serrated green leaves held on reddish stalks. Their strongly textured surface gives it a substantial presence among ferns and other shade lovers. Fine, pale flower tassels hang from the stems in late summer, adding an unexpected delicate detail. Unlike the familiar stinging nettle, this false nettle is grown as a handsome ornamental foliage plant.

Growing conditions:
Grow in partial or full shade in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. Shelter from drying winds and water during dry spells to keep the foliage looking its best.

Maximum size:
Approximately 100–150 cm tall and wide.
