Begonia luxurians carries deeply divided leaves on reddish, cane-like stems, creating a light, layered canopy. Its narrow leaflets give it an unusually elegant silhouette among broad-leaved tropical plants. Small pale flowers may appear, but the foliage is the reason it earns a place in a collection. Use it as a summer patio feature or enjoy it under cover where its tender growth can be protected.
Growing conditions:
Provide bright, filtered light and fertile, moist but well-drained compost, avoiding scorching sun and drying winds. Keep frost-free over winter and reduce watering when growth slows.
Maximum size:
Approximately 150–250 cm tall and 50–100 cm wide in favourable conditions, with pruning and pots restricting size.
