Callistemon rigidus forms a bushy evergreen shrub with narrow, dark green leaves. Its bright red summer flower spikes look like miniature bottlebrushes, adding a playful but striking texture. The foliage gives it substance outside the flowering season, making it useful near a warm wall or sheltered patio. It is especially effective alongside silver foliage and other sun-loving shrubs.
Growing conditions:
Plant in full sun in a sheltered position with moist but well-drained, neutral to acidic soil. Protect from hard frost and cold winds, or grow in a large pot that can be sheltered over winter.
Maximum size:
Approximately 150–250 cm tall and wide at maturity.
