Persicaria virginiana Variegated Group forms a clump of broad leaves patterned in green and creamy yellow. The irregular markings create a lively contrast with plain green ferns and hostas. Slender spikes of small red flowers add a fine vertical detail in late summer. It is particularly useful when you want brightness in shade without relying entirely on flowers.
Growing conditions:
Grow in partial shade in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Shelter the leaves from hot afternoon sun and drying winds, which can cause scorching.
Maximum size:
Approximately 50–100 cm tall and up to 50 cm wide initially, with established clumps gradually expanding.
