Datisca cannabina forms a substantial clump of upright stems clothed in bright green, divided leaves. The stems arch at their tips, where long tassels of tiny greenish-white flowers add a soft summer detail. Its fountain-like shape brings movement to a border and makes a lovely foil for broader, more solid leaves. Despite the common name false hemp, its appeal here is entirely ornamental.
Growing conditions:
Grow in sun or partial shade in deep, fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Choose a sheltered position and leave plenty of room for its arching stems.
Maximum size:
Approximately 150–250 cm tall and wide, with vigorous plants sometimes exceeding this height.
