Agave gentryi forms a substantial evergreen rosette with stiff leaves curving inward towards the centre. Prominent marginal teeth and reddish-brown tips give the green foliage a strong outline. It is a fine choice for a large pot or a carefully drained architectural planting area with room to spare. Slow growth makes it a long-term feature rather than a quick seasonal filler.
Growing conditions:
Grow in full sun in very free-draining soil or a gritty cactus mix. Protect the crown from excessive winter wet and provide shelter from severe frost, especially for young or container-grown plants.
Maximum size:
Eventually approximately 150–250 cm tall and wide for the mature rosette; a flowering spike rises well above the leaves.
