Agave americana ‘Variegata’ combines the strong outline of the century plant with contrasting cream to yellowish striping. Broad, arching leaves create a generous rosette that catches the eye throughout the year. It looks especially effective against a plain wall or surrounded by dark gravel. Sharp leaf tips and toothed edges make a roomy position away from paths essential.
Growing conditions:
Choose full sun and very free-draining soil or gritty cactus compost. Protect from severe frost and winter wet, preferably by moving container-grown plants into bright, frost-free shelter.
Maximum size:
Approximately 100–150 cm tall and wide for a mature rosette; offsets can create a larger colony over time.
