Perovskia ‘Blue Steel’, now often placed in Salvia, brings upright stems and finely textured, aromatic grey-green leaves. Small violet-blue flowers gather along the stems in summer, creating a soft cloud of colour. Its silvery framework pairs particularly well with warm yellows, rusty oranges and ornamental grasses. Plant several together for a relaxed, flowing effect in a sunny border.
Growing conditions:
Choose full sun and well-drained soil, avoiding rich, wet conditions that encourage weak growth. Prune back in spring as new shoots begin to develop.
Maximum size:
Approximately 100–150 cm tall and 50–100 cm wide.
