Aloiampelos striatula develops branching stems clothed in narrow, fleshy green leaves. Its open, slightly scrambling habit creates a very different effect from the familiar low aloe rosette. Yellow flower spikes with orange stamens add warmth in summer. In a sheltered spot it can become a substantial evergreen feature, pairing beautifully with gravel and other architectural plants.
Growing conditions:
Grow in full sun in sharply drained soil with shelter from cold winds and winter wet. Protect the roots in cold weather and keep backup cuttings or a potted plant under cover where winters are severe.
Maximum size:
Eventually approximately 150–250 cm tall and wide in favourable sheltered conditions; frost can reduce its size.
